    Interesting book

I just finished reading My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.  Very interesting read.  If you've never read anything by her, she has a way of delving right into tough, timely issues, and making you like the characters, even though you can see their faults along the way.  This is a very thought provoking book that looks at family dynamics and sibling relationships.  The language can get a bit racy, but the story is really good.

My contribution for the day....Pick up a Jodi Picoult book and enjoy.

  • Brrrrrrr

In an effort to keep things interesting and me on my toes, MN (Mother Nature) tossed a little curve ball into the gardening mix last night.  The overnight temp got down to 32°F.  Here we are at the tail end of May and it froze last night!  I covered my garden (pitiful as it is) and my barrel planters with sheets so those plants cannot say that I haven't done everything I could think of to give them a fighting chance.

You will notice that I described my garden as pitiful and in comparison with gardens that I'm used to looking at (namely my dad's in Texas) it is almost laughable.  I would laugh at those measly, not-growing, lazy plants if I had not worked my fanny off trying to coax them into growing and producing.  I know, I know....I planted too early but would it kill them to put on a new leaf?  To bloom?  As a gardener, I feel very unappreciated by my pepper plants and the basil...I won't even go there.  The only reason that the tomatoes allow me any pleasure is that they have demanded the bulk of the TLC and have gotten it but you'd think they could at least strain toward the sun and GROW!  The cilantro looks like it hates me and the celery is very stand-offish.  I don't think it would even stalk me.

If the veggies and herbs weren't bad enough, the daisies in the barrel planters have developed some sort of fungus and the ground cover that I planted....well, let's just say that it's not helping matters.  But, I don't take it personally....

  • Fun in the Rockies

I decided that I needed to post something new.  I'm sort of tired of looking at the page as it is.  :)

We've been busy trying to get some semblance of a yard going on this acre of weeds.  I pull weeds, I spray weeds, I curse weeds, but they're remarkably healthy all the same.  One day at a time is the motto around here.

A couple of weeks ago, DH had a training in Colorado Springs and my son, Matt flew there and spent the weekend with us.  We had a great time, even though the weather was crummy the entire weekend.  It was so rainy and cloudy we couldn't even get a good look at Pike's Peak and when you can't see that monster from the Springs, you know it's bad weather.  In fact, that weekend must have been winter's last hurrah because we've had gorgeous weather since then.  We did take a little trip to a local attraction called Seven Falls.  It is heralded as being Colorado's Most Scenic Mile and I don't doubt that being true.  Really, really pretty.  We didn't get to look around like we wanted because it started snowing and that changed to rain, but we did have a great time and want to go back when the weather is better.

Matt and me on one of the observation decks.

Matt and Lynn climbed all of those stairs.  I just looked up at the top and got dizzy, so I cheered them on from below!

The sign that I so inconveniently cut off says, among other things, "No climbing or scrambling on rocks."

The lighting stinks, but if you look closely, that's me sitting in front of a video poker machine in Cripple Creek and I've just been dealt a Royal Flush.  That was fun, too.  :)

    Everyone have a great week!

About Me

  • We've just settled in one place after 6 years of fulltime RVing. It's a big lifestyle change, but a change that it was time to make. I have 4 children, 5 step-children and 14 grandchildren. I am surely blessed! My hobbies include rubber stamping and scrapbooking, both digital and paper. I have varied interests and enjoy people. Thanks for stopping by!
